Tradition of Recorded Block Printing in Jaipur Dates from late
1700's. @. All fabric processing at "Tushar" is done by hand. @. Printing blocks are hand carved from Teak Wood. @. It takes 2 days to carve a Block and it wears out after about 800mtrs. @. To complete one product/item, 30 separate blocks may be used. The printer stamps the cloth approximately 1000 times to complete 3 meters in 5 colors. @. The Human energy input into an average "Tushar" Product in 8 hours. @. From raw cloth to finished product an item passes through at least 20 pairs of hands. @. The dyes are hand mixed and are of vegetable, mineral and chemical derivation. @. Most of the work is done in small workshops, or by families at home. |
